A Brief History
Brookhouse Farm is a family run Riding School situated in a semi rural area on the outskirts of Birmingham, with good road links including accessibility to the motorway network and a nearby train station (Whitlocks End).
We opened the gates of Brookhouse Farm Riding School in 1985 as a new business where none had existed before. We had approximately 45 acres of Green Belt grazing land which we used for our 3 ponies and the livery of other peoples horses/ponies. There were no buildings at this time, so when we opened the riding school we literally had our 3 ponies, on which we offered instruction, and a caravan which we purchased to use as a reception area, but we did a lot of local advertising and the business started to grow. Most of the money earnt over the last 25 years has been re-invested in the Riding School and we now have over 40 horses and ponies, a brick built reception, staffroom, toilets, tack room, twenty four stables plus stalls which offer covered hard standing for all the horses and ponies, a barn, a classroom, tea rooms and two floodlit all weather arena’s for teaching, the smaller of which has recently been totally rebuilt, the other refurbished ready for 2013. Both arenas now boast the most up to date surfaces, ride-able in almost any weather conditions, again illustrating the continued investment and commitment to the Riding School.
In 1990 we were finalists in the small business of the year competition and went on to be runner up.. a very proud moment for the family. The riding school now teaches an age range which extends from 6 years to 76 years, from beginners to more advanced riders and those who have a special interest in dressage or jumping, we also have many riders who have lessons here on their own horses so parking with a trailer is also available.
We hold various events throughout the year, dressage competitions, gymkhana’s, jumping competitions, adult weekends and now we have also introduced regular clinics for XC and SJ and Dressage.. we will be putting our events on the website so keep an eye on the events page for new listings.
